I was originally wanting to make a movie for the presentation that would be acting out my academic conversation but I thought that might actually be kind o boring also since I have no idea how to make a movie and then write the script. I was unsure for a while because I didn't want to have just another boring old presentation just stating the facts and add transitional noises. I new how I always looked at presentations and it was allows boring to me. When Carrie showed us the tons of different websites, I was excited to get started! I knew it was either going to be Presi or Powtoons that I would use. Presi had the effect to zoom in and out of things so you can have like hidden messages but Powtoons had cartoon people which was very exciting ; actually having them in motion rather than just speaking f it.

Me: What do you think taking a risk is?
Magen: Like doing something that you don't know the outcome of.
Me: What about taking risk in schools?
Magen: I mean there's like fighting or skipping then there's like doing something not expected like writing  paper that wasn't what was expected
Me: Have You ever taken a risk in school and if yes what was is?
Magen: There was one time when we had to write a formal paper on a subject that we found needed to be change or brought about. Mine was about abuse to women and how there needs to be a place built for them to be able to leave and live there. Instead of a formal paper, it was more of like a story or play. I  didn't feel like it was really me. My teacher asked me about it but she said it stood out and she loved the paper.
Me: So would you take more risk in the future in school?
Magen: Yes! I just need to learn my limit!

Me: What do you think taking a risk is?
Ira: Um I guess like doing something different then everyone else and possibly getting rewarded or denied.
Me: What about taking risk in schools?
Ira: Well I guess there's like stuff like breaking the rules that's a risk.
Me: Have you ever taken a risk in school and if yes what was it?
Ira: When we were doing our senior presentations, we had to bring in our product that we were working on just to make sure that we were doing our work. I did mine on breast cancer so I decided to make two models of breast one normal looking breast and some that had been cut off due t breast cancer. All I had done though were the normal breast so once I brought them in the kids in the class began playing around with them and laughing about the bare breast. My teacher said it was in appropriate to do that and that I had to change it. I worked so hard and now I had to throw them out.
Me: So would you take more risk in the future in school?
Ira: No, I was very disappointed and from now on I will just do what I think the teacher wants.

How would we combine the two academic conversations?
Is the presentation like a formal paper we have to write?
where do we post the pictures of our writing into the day at?
How long does our reflections have to be?

Dear Carrie,
I am writing you this letter to tell you all about the topic that I would
like to write my inquiry project on which is taking risk in a school
environment. Sure that sounds bad because people look at taking a risk as a bad
thing but that’s the problem today. Students aren’t aware of the benefits that
come out of taking a risk and they need to know that nothing is wrong with it.
When you showed us that list of ideas, risk taking stood out to me. I actually
have a tattoo saying “without risk there are no benefits,” which in my eyes is
true. I believe that we can’t get anywhere in this world without taking a risk
but students today are so scared that they just don’t want to. I think teachers
should allow their students to be more open with their work instead of confided
in rules they have to follow so they can pass the class. I know that it took me
until I reached high school to realize that taking a risk isn’t as bad as people
put it. So what if there is a chance of failure, there is also a chance at being
great.
Scientist such as Galileo Galilei, took a risk at discovering the truth
about the Earths revolution. While the church told everyone that the sun
revolved around the Earth and that the Earth was the center of the universe,
Galileo discovered that it was actually that the Earth that revolved around the
sun and that the sun was the center of the universe. He took a risk and went
against what everyone said was right to prove that they were wrong and though he
suffered great criticism, he became one of the greatest scientist
ever.
I need to research more people who have benefited from taking a risk in
the education system. I also need to figure out how it will help students in the
future and not just where they are at now. I plan on interviewing college
students who have taken risk in their class and who have benefited out of it. I
would also like to mention both sides of the story so that I am not looking at
one perspective so I wanted to interview another student who has taken and risk
and it ended in a negative outcome instead. I need to explain how teachers can
really change the way that they teach so they can incorporate the risk factor
into their teaching styles in a way that allows students to realize the correct
kind of risk to take and not the kind that can be dangerous or cause harm to
others.  I also need to keep in mind that I need to come up with situations where taking a risk could be
possible in a classroom and in an everyday situation with education. I really
think I could come up with a great inquiry project with this
topic.

                 -Sincerely Cheryl Brent

The whole education system being all messed up is something that we may nver have a solution to. It would be hard to force every teacher in the world to teach a certain way. To not try to teach based off of their students oppinions and to teach how they want and if the studnets don't like it than they can get out. In college it's almost like the teachers have to teach how the students want them to because the students are paying for it and if they don't want to take the class, than they don't have to.   Without the students, they wouldn't have a job.
The only way i could come up with some sort of solution would be a nation wide change in all teachers. I wouldn't be able to come up with a way to teach but I think a very detailed study with students and figure out which may be the best way to learn. Although all students learn differently, I think it should be some sort or mixture. The change I think should start in an elemenary school starting at a certain year and from that year on they would be taught the new way. The middle and high school teachers would teach the kids how they have been learning their whole life since it would be hard to suddenly stop how they are used to being taught.
Teachers would have to enforce the teaching style and actually commit to it.They would have to come up with different lesson plans and actually change the way they were taught about how to teach. The students would really have to be start trying harder instead of getting everything handed to us. Me as a studet, it would be a challenge to go from half-assing it now to working hard as hell. It would be a well needd change though.

This article was very easy to relate to.  All my life I was taught to have an
intro, body, and conclusion and at times I find myself still doing that. This
article reminded me of Rose because the students wanted to be normal in a
writing sense. They all would write in five paragraph form because that’s what
they thought the teacher wanted. No one would dare write four paragraphs! It
reminds me of Frerie because it’s something that the teachers are teaching their
students to do and if they don't, the students would get a bad
grade.
Students who do not conform to the five paragraph-essay
indoctrination, whose thoughts do not easily lend themselves to the
five-paragraph-theme format, learn quickly that they and those ideas do not
belong in that classroom (Brannon 20).
To me this sentence tells it all. Those students who would not
conform to the five paragraph idea would receive bad grades, so instead they
have to control their creativity and at times they may begin to dislike writing
because they feel so structured. I enjoy my English 1101 class last semester
because my teacher wanted us to forget all those rules and the structure or
writing but instead just to let everything flow. Writing became less complicated
and more fun, like a releasing mechanism. When I'm writing a long paper I still
find myself listing the three main ideas but instead of three body paragraphs it
turns out to be a bunch of body paragraphs so I think to a certain extent that
the five paragraph essay helps me and helped me get through school but then
again I'm sure that if we were taught to write a four paragraph essay, I would
say the same thing. Like the essay says, that if teachers stopped teaching it,
students wouldn't rely on it so much. If they were taught to keep an open mind
and write how they want to write, then it wouldn't be the same
way.

I have always believed that education was important to the
development of others and also their successfulness. As much as I hate coming
to class every day and doing it for 13 years, I know that when I’m all done I
will hopefully have the job that I always wanted. I go to school so that I can
someday be a successful wife and mother and a good influence on others. I do
agree that sometimes students need a break, a little more than what is already
given, but that a break does the mind well.

The banking concept that Freire mentions was confusing like his
whole article but what I received out of it was that the teacher thinks they are
right no matter what and the students know nothing. I agree with what Freire was
saying that the teacher actually learns from the student. In my English 1101
class, we talked about how teachers from this generation knew very little about
the technology that we have today which actually hurts students since the
teachers are unable to tell them how to use it.

The problem-posing method seems like a way that I would be able
to learn because the teacher takes into consideration how the students would be
able to learn and with feedback she can change her lesson plan or keep it the
same depending on the students view. I’ve noticed when I was in high school that
when the new semester started, the teachers would have students fill out a
worksheet and there’s always the same question, “What is the best way for you to
learn?”

As Freire mentions, “In sum: banking theory and practice, as
immobilizing and fixating forces, fail to acknowledge men and women as
historical beings”. Humans make the future and tell the history. We possess the
knowledge needed to learn new material and to have a nature instinct and basic
knowledge. We are the most complex creatures on this Earth and should be
treated and taught exactly like that.

“I just want to pass this class, I don’t care what grade I get!”
I would say things like that often in high school. My school was no private
school and it wasn’t known for its bad behavior, we were just…normal. My
teachers were average, never really pushing their students but not telling them
they are stupid. Rose talks about his experience with his teachers often and
that they played an important role in his trajectory.
My teachers were important people to me but they have never reached out
to me one on one just to ask me a question about college or anything like that.
I was an average student who made average grades. I was normal according to Rose
but I don’t want to be normal. I would disagree with Rose’s thoughts about
normality. I want to be bigger, change something, actually do something in the
world and stand out.

“My folks would say that they wanted me to go to college and be a
doctor, but I don't know how seriously I ever took that;” (Rose 191) This quote
stuck out to me because my parents always had big dreams for me and wanted me to
do something that will have my well off in my future, but instead of turning it
down, it stuck with me. I wanted to become a doctor at that time, though now
it’s gone down to a nurse or something in the hospital, I wanted to help people.
I want to make an impact on someone’s life and have them remember what I did. My
family makes me want to do my best. I want to make them proud and I want my
future family to be well off as well.

This is me not fitting into standards but everyone is different.
Everyone stands out rather they know it or not. Don’t always listen to society
and feel like since they disapprove, you conform to their approval. That’s how
we are where we are; people don’t conform, and they demand
change.
